The Fatheads, also known as Meet the Fatheads, is a popular cartoon series created by Rachel Bighead. It is Rocko and Filburt's favorite TV show

Background[]

The show starred The Fatheads, a married couple that appeared to be a highly unflattering parody of Rachel's parents, Ed and Bev, but depicting them as ugly, loudmouthed, and brutally stupid. They constantly bicker and fight with each other and anyone else they come across, hitting people and each other with parking meters. They are all voiced by Charlie Adler. The fictional show is designed by Doug Lawrence.

The show is hugely popular, with Rocko, Filburt, Heffer, and even Spunky being great fans of the show and its style of humor.

In Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, many years after the series ended, with encouragement from Rocko, Heffer, and Filburt, Rachel was able to revive the series with the Fatheads having a baby boy, inspired by memories from her childhood. Rocko initially disapproved of the New Fatheads until Ed Bighead was able to convince him to accept change since it is a part of life. During production, there was an attempt at a CGI reboot led by Chuck and Leon, which was canceled once Rachel was brought on board

Characters[]

The Fatheads[]

  • Mr. Fathead: Mr. Fathead is the man of the family, who is married to Mrs. Fathead. He's the parody of Ed Bighead. Known as Ted Fathead in the I Have No Son! pitch script[1]
  • Mrs. Fathead: Mrs. Fathead is Mr. Fathead's wife. She's the parody of Bev Bighead. Known as Ev Fathead in the I Have No Son! pitch script
  • Baby Fathead: Baby Fathead is the son of the Fatheads, he was introduced in the revival special of The Fatheads to save Conglom-O in Static Cling. He's the parody of Rachel Bighead.
  • Fly: The fly is the family pet. It resembles Earl

Other characters[]

  • Maitre d': He narrates the show. He sometimes mistakenly calls the Fatheads "the Boneheads".
  • Melon Man: A mailman who delivers exploding melons.
  • Girl Scout: A girl scout who tried to sell the Fatheads cookies, who Mr. Fathead promptly ate - Mrs. Fathead had to use her parking meter to dig her out of Mr. Fathead's mouth.
  • Rolo: The Fatheads' next-door neighbor. He's an Australian beaver. He's a parody of Rocko.

Opening Credits[]

The opening animation sees the bodies of The Fatheads being made on a conveyor belt, using live action human bodies that grow on Fatwood trees - the female body being used for Mr. Fathead while the male body is used for Mrs. Fathead, before being sprayed over and impaled with parking meters. In Static Cling, their heads are made of what appears to be ground up human flesh. The ending of the introduction sees human hands using buttons similar to those of a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots game to make the Fatheads slam one another with their signature parking meters. The ending has a zoom-in of the parking meter, which says "The Fatheads: Created by Ralph Bighead".

Trivia[]

  • The Fatheads are based on Joe Murray's neighbors by proxy of the Bigheads being based on those same neighbors. Alternately, their premise is evocative of satirical and farcical parodies of American married couple shows like The Honeymooners, All In The Family, and even The Simpsons.
  • Rather than a sitcom laugh track, single laughter can be heard, courtesy of writer Martin Olson.
  • According to the episode "Wacky Delly", the Fatheads ran for 893 episodes.
    • As of Static Cling, Rachel made a reunion movie, therefore making it 894 episodes.
  • In reality, the Fatheads sequences were created by Doug Lawrence, who brought his signature surrealist non-sequitur sense of humor into every episode.
  • Rolo's name is a pun on the music genre "rock and roll".
  • The name "Meet the Fatheads" could be shortened to "MTF", which is also an acronym in the transgender community for "male to female". Although likely unintentional, this could be seen as foreshadowing towards Rachel's arc in Static Cling. This acronym is used near exclusively in the I Have No Son pitch script
