Greenskeeper

The Greenskeeper is the employee in charge of maintaining the golf course in Teed Off. He is a somewhat mysterious individual. He is first seen admonishing Heffer for being lazy and not responding to his radio. Later, he conspires with Conglom-O's Mr. Noway to rig a golf came in a clueless Mr. Dupette's favor. From his headquarters in a fake tree, he and his white-uniformed underlings monitor the game and make clandestine efforts to help Dupette win and not-so-clandestine ones to sabotage his opponent, Ed Bighead (mostly by launching pianos at both him and his golf balls). When Heffer, noticing that his boss is helping Noway cheat on Dupette's behalf, begins helping Mr. Bighead win, Noway angrily tells the greenskeeper to step up his game. Ultimately, he is seemingly killed when his base gets destroyed at the end of the episode.

Personality and Traits[]

  • Whereas all of his employees, including Heffer, wear white hardhats and white uniforms and have visible faces, the greenskeeper himself dresses entirely in black with a black hardhat and black coat with a large tank Bug-B-Gone insecticide. His face is also hidden from view by a gas mask with red lenses, presumably for use when spraying. His species is consequently unknown, although it's possible he's a turtle since his overall build is similar to Filburt's. He has a very short temper and is prone to yelling at his employees for perceived laziness or cowardice. He particularly dislikes Heffer, considering him stupid and useless. He doesn't like being talked down to or told what to do; although he and Noway are nominally partners, he becomes angry when the Conglom-O executive starts becoming impatient with him and telling him he needs to try harder to circumvent Heffer's efforts to help Ed win. He himself is not a coward or a wimp, exhibiting certain traits that could be considered "villainous valor" such as refusing to evacuate his base and save himself even when it's clear it's doomed and yelling at a terrified Lesley to come back when he runs out.

Trivia[]

  • His overall appearance and demeanor are a spoof of Darth Vader from Star Wars, particularly the scene where he talks to Noway over a viewscreen. While the greenskeeper is telling Noway not to be so presumptuous and rude, Noway begins choking, with the greenskeeper seeming to be the one doing it with the power of his mind (however, the greenskeeper turns out not to be the one doing it; Noway simply had something caught in his throat). This is a direct reference to the scene where Vader uses the Force to choke Admiral Ozzel over a viewscreen in The Empire Strikes Back.
  • Although it is known he is voiced by Tom Kenny, Kenny is not credited for voicing him (only Heffer), so "Greenskeeper" is a purely conjectural name for the character based on his job at the golf course. If he has an actual name in the script it is not known at this time.
